5 things you need to get started with hand embroidery
If your looking for a new hobby hand embroidery might just be the one for you.
The most wonderful thing is you really don’t need a lot to get started and it can be very inexpensive to start with if you would like to just test the water and see if you like it.

1. Embroidery Hoop and Fabric
Choosing your embroidery hoop is the first step.
Make your life easier and invest in a good quality hoop, there are so many to chose from whether it’s wooden or plastic.

Cotton Fabric is a great place to start and a lighter shade so you can transfer your image easily.
2. Needle
For your embroidery needle start with a multi pack because you will learn which needle your most comfortable using.
Make your need eye of the needle is large enough for your thread to avoid getting frustrated.
My favourite needle is a size 5
3. Embroidery Threads
Embroidery threads are very important. Personally I would always invest in a higher quality thread.
They are easier to work with, they come in a better range of colours and they won’t break and knot as easily as cheaper ones.
4. The Right Transfer Pen
Transferring your design onto your fabric is best done with a heat erasable pen.
You don’t have to wash it off it can be removed simply by running a warm hairdryer over it.
You also won’t be left with a permanent outline if you change your mind like with a biro.
5. Embroidery Scissors
Now embroidery scissors aren’t exactly essential for hand embroidery any scissors you have around the house will do the job but having a set of embroidery scissors will make your life easier.
They are small enough to get into tight areas, shape and easy to handle around your delicate work.
You don’t want to snip your fabric by mistake half way through your project.
